Tea is one of the most widely drunk beverages around the world and this is partly down to the health benefits associated with the different varieties you can find.Tea is a great source for keeping our bodies hydrated, and the low levels of caffeine in some teas can aid in keeping us alert and awake.

At Luponde all of our teas have their own individual health benefits and listed below are some examples.

Orthodox Black Tea:

Black tea contains similar amounts of polyphenols as green tea. These are antioxidants and have great restorative powers. Black tea can help strengthen the immune system and fight off those pesky colds and flu. It has been known to aid in expanding the airways and help asthma sufferers. Black tea can also improve cardiac blood flow and coronary function. It contains abundant tannins which have a soothing anti-inflammatory effect on the digest tract. In 2010, researchers found that people who drank tea had significantly less cognitive decline than non tea drinkers. A cup of tea contains manganese, which is essential for general development, and potassium which helps to maintain the body’s fluid balance. Although gram for gram tea contains higher levels of caffeine than coffee, less weight is used when making it and therefore a cup of black tea contains considerably less caffeine.

Green Tea:

Green tea has a huge amount of health benefits and is full of antioxidants which make this an extremely healthy drink. Some research has shown that green tea drinkers have lower chances of developing heart disease and some cancers. As well as this, green tea has been known to increase metabolic rate, which can aid in weight loss. Green tea has the ability to lower serum glucose, helping to protect against kidney failure. Tests have found that green tea could help improve memory and slow the development of Alzeimer’s disease.

White Tea:

White tea is made from just the bud, the youngest part of the plant, and therefore contains more antioxidants than black and green teas. It can aid in lowering blood pressure and cholesterol and is a great detox tea! It can provide protection within the body for the skin, helps protect cells from sun damage and minimize the signs of aging. It can help the body’s immune system and is fluoride-rich helping prevent the growth of dental plaque.

Camomile:

Camomile is a wonderful drink to calm and relax you after a long stressful day. As it is naturally caffeine free it makes a great bed time drink and will help you drift off to sleep. It can help treat digestive problems, as well as soothe allergic reactions and menstrual cramps.

Peppermint:

Peppermint is very kind on the digestive system and therefore makes it an ideal after dinner drink. For any stomach aches and pains peppermint will help in soothing them. It is also an antiseptic and has calming yet uplifting qualities. It is also recommended for travel sickness and morning sickness during pregnancy.

Lemon Verbena:

Lemon Verbena is also one of our caffeine free infusions and therefore makes it a perfect drink to help calm your nerves. It has also been known to help reduce a fever and soothe persistent coughs.

We have also found some more unexpected benefits of our tea:

• Rinse your hands with tea to eliminate food odours, especially fish.
• To soothe a child after having an injection, apply a cool wet green teabag to the injection site.
• Cool teabags on the eyes will reduce swelling and redness.
• Wash face with tea to cure acne.
• Cold, wet teabags will sooth bee stings and insect bites.
• Dip a towel in cool tea to make a compress and soothe sunburn.
• Clean Persian and Oriental carpets by sprinkling nearly dry tea leaves on it and then sweeping them away.
• A strong footbath of black tea will strengthen the pads of a dog’s feet.
